The mass media is in a feeding frenzy regarding the many shark attacks in Volutia County over the weekend, especially in NSB.

Overheard last night on a radio show was a reporter asking a local Daytona surfer what he thought of all the attacks. Delivered in his best Jeff Spicoli imitation he said:

'When you surf in their house, that's the way it is, man.'

A friend just called me and said he saw an interview with a surfer in Daytona who said people were paddling and jumping over 'bunches' of sharks to get out to the waves. When asked why, the surfer said the waves were so good they just had to get out. And that is IMHO the most extreme case of 'surf jones' I have ever heard.

Hmph, they are just about everywhere lately, baitfish galore in Satellite Beach this morning, but lucky for me, no more attacks (we were chased out last week by a midget bull shark who would NOT leave us alone, even while we were doing our darndest to leave HIM alone!). Peter ended up smacking him with his hand like a bad puppy! Jane

Dunno mon. I saw footage of a kid running out into the surf (where 6-8 ft bull sharks were sighted) and to his right, about 15 feet from him were about three 2-3 foot sharks chasing baitfish into about 6 inch deep water. You could see their backs exposed and their caudal fins tilted at an angle because they were scraping the bottom.

I wonder how long a board would last if it were surfed wearing chainmail booties. Mr. Morris?
