Pretty cool book. They gloss over details, so of course it is a high level overview of the world's surf breaks. I like how they don't mention any surf breaks between Solana Beach and Orange County. It's not worth travelling to in that section anyway.

Purty pictures.

I dislike all books/pamphlets etc that sell-out surf locales.

Let each surfer find his own way, using a map, compass, and whatever word of mouth he is lucky enough to glean.

Where?

You should see the surf map of Florida. We have a house across the street from a sweet little spot that I wouldn't have dreamed would be well known. It's in the Gulf. I was reading the Florida surf map one day and voila! There was my little back yard spot!

The spots are mapped out in North and Central America. I think Brazil, Peru and a lot of Chili is mapped. Africa, Europe etc.

Hmmm, odd, maybe there's no map for the GL's? Could this be one of the few remaining uncharted surf areas?

A little tongue in cheek humor there.

Ah, you're part of the conspiracy of yankees to come down here, buy up our property, and keep us from our surf spots. Hmmmmmm.

Just kidding....sort of.

Cheers,

Uh, Surff? You're not living in a trailer on stilts in Horsehoe Beach, are you? It is on a surfing map for Florida that I have. I went there after a 'cane passed from well south of there towards the frequent landfall zone in that part of the Gulf

Tourists come to your spot and write about it for other tourists. They give away your spots but do a shitty job of providing key info so that more clueless tourists come and get their fool asses into trouble.

Yet I found some of the chatter about a spot surfed recently by Shaft quite amusing. The locals are pretty slovenly according to reports.

I also agree. It's an old, but important topic.

There's a Web site that came along here in my area that had *directions* to some of the most treasured spots in the region. Not the numerous 'secret' spots, but spots that people might know by name, and which they didn't know where they were until someone came along and posted *directions* on a friggin Web site! Most have now been removed, thankfully.

Get a map, examine it. Looks at wave models and buoys. See which way the wind is blowing. Go surf!

People always want things handed to them. It's better to earn certain things. It has a lot to do with respect.

Mr. Watson, puuleeeese. The house in Redington Shores has been in the family for three generations.

Have you ever surfed at the Redington Beach park?
