when i put myself in poor Bethany's shoes the hair on the back of me neck stands up (goofy-foot) ...
i mean i'd sooner loose one of me legs below the knee then one of me arms ...
i once saw a dude at da creek with a prosthetic foot (below the knee) and he freagan surfed ...
granted he never really got off the straight line going down a wave ...
and he never hit the lip or round_housed the mathaphaking wave_lip backside ...
the poor fellow never got to pull off a floaty or got to do a fall_back_spring_forward ...
he never did a cut_back ...
or pumped_it so hard that you feel like your board is doing the 'sawing machine' on the surface ...
and of course, no rooster (therefore roosta_saka) tails for this man either ...
BUT he could still surf with 1/2 leg missing ...
without an arm, however, we are all phuked ...
without an arm you might as well boogy_board ... hmmm ... does this mean that boogy_boarders are just surfers without arms????
any takers on this one?

It is possible... I use to see a one armed guy in the lineup when I first started out. He was a little guy, but he managed to stroke into waves single-handedly, and once he was on his feet he could rip down the line better than most out there...Granted, it was Wildwood Crest, NJ.

There's a guy here in RI who surfs with a prosthetic lower leg. He rides a longboard and can manage a bottom turn, trim, and move up and down the face a bit. Totally amazing and much respect due to him for overcoming the loss of limb and still getting out there regularly!
I saw a clip of Bethany Hamilton on her longskate. At least she can still do that. She could snowboard, too, if she left Hawaii. I can't imagine she'd be able to surf again. How would she paddle out, duck-dive, and paddle into a wave? Maybe on a small day on a longboard...

A friend got back from Kauai a few days ago. He was snorkeling in the bay the day they brought in the shark they think did it. He said they tied a cable to one of the boat buoys with what was basically a gaff with a barb on it, baited with another shark. He said the body of the shark was huge, more than 3' across.

a question from an official IQ test:
if 30 man can paint 50 houses in 10 days ... how many refrigerators does a non-smoker beaver need?
