Bud sent in:

Thanks for the real deal. A couple questions:

In the video, was there concave in the bottom of the board you were riding? With 'squirt' like that off the bottom, I'm guessing 'yes.'

Were contestants in the Buffalo Big Board Contest riding BICs?

I just have to reiterate what so many others have expressed in regards to your session reports (and espacially pics): BASTARD! ;^)

Scouted Santa Cruz this friday for surf, only to find too small of a swell to warrent getting wet. Checked Steamers on a whim. Surprised to discover some fun looking peaks rolling through. Too bad that the Kayak contest was bogarting them. Kayaks, for chist's sake. Such a waste!

Hey Btw72-

I'm riding a borrowed board (my brother's) which is very similar to what I usually get for myself. 6'3' thruster with fairly pronounced single to double concave bottom. This one I had trouble surfing until moving the trailing fin back all the way back (about 3/4's of an inch). Made the difference between spinning out almost every hard cutback/bottom turn to holding firm 95% of the time.

Not sure, but I don't think that is part of the itinerary. Perhaps you mean those identical longboards tied to the scaffolding? - I'm pretty sure those were part of the prize awards to be given away. As you probably know, the whole thing is more of a surf festival than your traditional surf contest. They even have a segment where the divisions are based solely on the rider's weight, e.g. 300lbs & up! When we drove past, the canoe surfing contest was going on. We only caught a glimpse but with a bunch of large outrigger canoes each with a half dozen people in the overhead surf, it looked sketchy.

Good surfing to you,
Brent

What sort of fins you got in there? Multiple FCS plugs or what?

I always dug watching the 'bully board' events on H3O...

Been using Excel Fin System for a couple years now. Fairly common around here and superior to FCS, IMO...

Good surfing to you,
