A 63-year-old New Zealand man has been charged with assault after punching another surfer in the mouth for dropping in. New Zealand surfer Blair Stewart said Edward Rare had already 'dropped in on about six people', the New Zealand Herald reported in its Saturday edition, when he returned the favour. This led to the altercation, a smack on the jaw and subsequent dental treatment. Stewart said that Rare had not shown any respect while surfing Makorori Beach in July this year. Respect, Stewart urged, was necessary to stop violent behaviour in the water, adding that non-locals should 'lay back a bit' when surfing with locals. Mike

Just another case of 'Once were Warriers'. 'You drop in on me bro, I drop ya !'

However in reality, I suspect that the outsider was probably a townie and acting the way he normally would in the city....seen it before.

Serves a word of warning to those from overseas who are used to being competitive in the water. Respect the locals ...goes without saying.

In L.A. several decades ago, the referral was to Valles (or Valleys) who visited the Coast on weekends. In San Diego, the slur was 'Dildos' re weekend surfers from Escondido and the ever present Zoners in the summer (Arizona visitors with their Chinese CostCo boards and neon wet suits).

'Rodney King... why (weepy) can't we all just get along?'
