Hey NeoN,
We had a great two-week stretch of surf at WindanSea last month, and EVEN I caught a few waves there. I bet you, BK and the rest of your crew was stoked on that south swell!
(If even 1% of the surfing community could surf as well as you and your team, and have 50% of your environmental awareness, this world, for surfers, at least, would be a better place!)
Which brings me to the surf cam issue. I got a little dizzy reading the posts regarding surf-cams, etc. but this part of a thread From:
'Aywayz, to each his own. For the most part there is not a thing anyone can do about a cam pointing at their fave beach, so deal with it. It doesn't mean there will be a million more kooks comin to your break. It's not like if you don't have cam access you will never know about the break, this is So. Cal., no secret spots here.'
A group wanted to put a surf cam at WindanSea last year, or maybe it was the year before...anyway...the head-cam-guy came to a WindanSea Surf Club meeting at made a really nice gesture: He asked the club members for their opinion(s) of the idea. That was probably a mistake on his part, but at least he made the effort to explain WHY a cam, pointed at the line-up at WindanSea, would not create any crowd related problems. Club members did not resort to violence, but I think there was consensus that all surf cams should be aimed at the San-O, Trestles area….JUST KIDDING!!
Anyway, even though at this time I live EAST of 5, I depend upon my own, 40 years of surf experienced eyes, for making a surf decision.
I don't even know if there is a cam at WindanSea now, but I have a feeling that, whatever price the surf cam guys would pay a WindanSea resident to place a cam in their picture window, that amount would be matched, and bettered, by WindanSea surfers willing to pay for a no cam view.
An...Skyman, you're so right, there are NO 'secret spots' in So. Cal, so just keep your eyes on the cams, the crowds, and smile.
