There is an electronic shark repellents segment on the KCOP/UPN (Channel 13 News at 10 PM tonight) in Los Angeles and vicinity if you would like to watch such.

Aloha James,

You just gave me a twinge of nostalgia.

We used to go up to the war surplus store in Costa Mesa and buy packets of shark repellent. Then we would tape them to our ankles and go out at the River Jetty with a small penny nail in our pocket. Just before we would catch a wave we would put a small hole in the packet letting out the bright chartreuse repellent. If you dragged your foot right you could get these psychedelic wave trails following your ride. After that you would sit in a nice green circle in the lineup. They used to last about three waves.........

Not sure what it did for any sharks in the area.......

Aloha,

Yeah, same stuff I think..................but this was in the late 50's, early 60's............we didn't know duct tape yet. We were using electric tape if I recall. Wow, we never tried it at night.

Ride Well, Denny
