Session report Place : Indian River Inlet (North side) Delaware Time : 9:30am - 2:00pm Weather : Sunny, high 70's, light offshore breeze swinging around to onshores. Waves : Knee to thigh, with infrequent waist high sets.

Words:

It was almost unrideable - I saw one guy get a single short ride. Even though the waves were small, they seemed to be moving fast... either that, or I need to continue working on my paddling muscles. Even if we could've caught one, the waves were breaking almost right on the sand. I wasn't too thrilled about the prospect of breaking a fin off.

Anyway, my boy Sean and I didn't get a single ride, but at least we managed to get wet. Hopefully these summer doldrums will pass.

There seems to be a little long-period swell in the northeast US, sneaking in from somewhere, maybe the forntal system a couple hundred miles out there. Too bad it's only knee-high here in RI, but I read reports from Maine that it was chest-high and very fun over the weekend.

Check out the long-range NOAA wave model:

It looks better for you in the mid-Atlantic than for RI, but if this holds up, Cape Cod and points north could get good too.

I'll tell ya something else, Indian River Inlet does not break as reliably as it used to. I think I'm going to start exploring more sandbars in Ocean City.
