Very inconsistent swell from the South or Southwest??

Up to head high...occasionally. but mostly waist to shoulder. Good Form , but weak waves. Had fun , but they were weak.

The water had a bit of a chill to it, must have been 64 degrees.

Sounds a lot like north HB was. Except you failed to mention the simulated whale shit and other human by-products. Disgusting !!

Rob, Do you frequent the Newport Jetty much? I was there today (7.22.01) after the Pac. Coast Triathalon to go check it out as I had never gone to the Wedge before, and wanted to go check it out. Ad as you say...The waves were really inconsistent. I did find out that it does take a lot of energy when out at the Jetty as the undertow likes to play games with you. There were a few OHH waves that crashed relatively close to the shore.

How often do you go to the jetty? When is usually the best time to go?

nahh, I dont do the Wedge thing, my future and spinal cord are always talking me out of it.

As to Santa Ana River Jetties, it got better Sunday, a little more size than Saturday,more consistency and alot more fun. Surfed from 9:30-2:00, had a Good time.

I found every morning and afternoon from '54 til '68 worked well for me...............

Its not the same old Jetty Structure anymore..... the quality has diminished there significantly , with it being totally tide dependent instead of just hitting some early morning tubes.... In fact, the place rarely tubes anymore.

Very Sad...........
