I was told this area gets good NW and W swells. Surfer Report says S or SW swells exclusively. After scouring the web, nothing but weak information at best and minimal photos.

Are the travel agents and resorts lying? damn! I may have to go to CR the following week to make up for this.

I have not been told this area gets good W and NW swells, which agrees. with Surf Report.......

Look at the map and the shading from Baja and I think you can see why people have told me this. I could well be wrong, however.

I think jb could clarify this. craig

Thanks Craig. I remembered you having said that before when you went, S and SW only. I dont necessarily pay attention to geographical layouts though, because swells can actually turn corners, depending on offshore canyons, etc.

Example, Playa Hermosa in CR gets a lot of NW swell, even though Nicoya is clearly blocking it.

Fortunately, there are a lot of other activites around Vallarta, even if I get skunked. Thanks again,

I think you should try Playa Azul and be sure to get to Punta de Mita, a point break that also works on windswell. Try el Anclote also. I was able to score there even when Sayulita was nearly flat.

Your standards are likely higher than mine because of where you are from, but consider how great it is to surf nice warm water with beautiful scenery, anyway.

Stay away from the Timeshare salespeople and remember the most used phrase in PV: ' NON GRACIAS!'

Have fun! craig

i may be wrong, but near PV is costa azul, not playa azul. playa azul is much further south in michoacan. playa azul from what i recall is a very hairy place. not the safest if you now what i mean.

Sorry, you are correct. Costa Azul is the name. There is a resort there. They also have boat trips to take you to surf breaks, including punta de mita.

Hope to return there next month, maybe. craig
