There were 10 waves that stood out but I concluded that this one ridden by Flea was the biggest. Its our Christmas day Wave of the Day

It is a conservative 50 feet.

Could be another 5-10 feet if the wave dips in front of Flea where we cannot see, which is common at Mavericks.

At the time, it probably seemed like a good idea when Dave Blake posted

So that's what.... 8'-10' Haw'n?

What blows me away is that for all of those pre-Mavs days, everyone assumed that you had to go the Hawaii for that size and quality. So waves like the one in question came through for decades with no one out (and no one watching, no one filming).

How many riders are out on a day like that? How many catch any waves?

Apparently a couple guys did paddle out that day and caught a few waves until 'They (the tow in crews) chased us out, basically,' Renneker said. 'I can't even begin to tell you how much it bothers me.'
