: given. Near Kihei would be best, but anywhere with reasonable prices is : fine.

: Also, where are good surf spots where an intermediate surfing couple : won't stress the locals?

The Maui Coast is a decent place. Kihei is near the beach but not where the surf is. I can't recommend any specific spots because I don't know that island that well. Up north past Kahalui (airport) should have something.

Try the Maui Kai (http://www.mauikai.com/). My wife and I have stayed there several times and loved it. All rooms are on the ocean front. You can see the whales going by. There is also a break out in front called Rainbows that isn't real consistent but can be fun. The Maui Kai is about a 20 min. drive from Honolua Bay. There are many other breaks nearby too. Good luck.

Any recommendations for lodging in Maui in late April? The Mrs. won an atta' girl trip from work and we want to stay longer than the package given. Near Kihei would be best, but anywhere with reasonable prices is fine.

Also, where are good surf spots where an intermediate surfing couple won't stress the locals?

...worth it if you like gilded prisons. I rather camp on a secluded beach.

The strip from Kihei to Wailea ranks up there in the land rape department, in my opinion. But, if you like golf, there is a great view from the golf course. And they have a really up scale mall that is virtually empty. Just don't look for something pedestrian like a band-aid.

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton once when my wife went to a med. conference. Charged it to CME. Honolua Bay was good for snorkeling - flat. The place was laid out pretty tastefully for a monstrosity, but the room was mildewy from the A/C condensate. It smelled somewhat like a wet towel that had been left in a gym bag.. Otherwise, it was a whole lot nicer than the most of the overdeveloped west Maui scene. There was one real thing left from the pre-development days. The old country store had a pretty good sandwich and some local style food for lunch.

If you really want to see Maui go where they tell you not to take your rental car.

Aloha,
