I bought this recently to ride and restore. It has just a couple of small dings. The board is straight and strong, no cracks or split seams. The finish is alittle oxidized wich is no problem. It still has the original fin. The seal tape on the rails should be replaced. Anyone know what kind of tape was used back then? Should I consider a repigment or a repaint to restore to original appearence? Does anyone know where I could locate an original WAVE sticker for the deck as well as another rubber vent plug? Any clues on what the value of the board when restored might be?

My word, a hollow WAVE...I thought all those were long since dead and gone.

Let's see, in order -

Good that the fin is still there, likewise that the thing hasn't been left out so long that it has fallen apart; as it was an early epoxy board, you see. Polishing with a surfboard-finishing compound will bring back the finish as well as it's going to be brought back. Forget repigment or repaint. Unless the board's thrashed and you really need to hide something. That's why a repainted board tends to have a lower value.

Seal tape on the rails was something a lot like electrical tape and I'd imagine you can fake it with that or narrow strips of black duct tape. It really wasn't a sealant, more like protection and covering up where the top and bottom halves of the board were glued together.

The plug - get one out of a 69 cent squirt gun: that's what they used originally. Original sticker? Unlikely.

Value- tough call. Collectors, you see, are nuts. What they pay for absolute garbage amazes me at times and what they think their crap is worth is equally looney. Look on eBay for something similar and make sure that that was a price that was actually paid, not an insane reserve price or floor price that was never met.

hope that's of use
