Just noticed its Canberra Day in OZ. As with Anzac Day I am totally clueless about the import of it, but eager to learn. I was very impressed and humbled by the story behind Anzac Day. I am unable to find much on Canberra Day.

Never heard of it Foon, probably a hoax, don't mean much unless it's a public holiday anyway. Anzac day commemorates the Anzacs (Oz and NZ heroes (read - martyrs) of the 1st WW, I believe. Not too many diggers left standing these days, spongin' mostly

Surf Content: Was expecting good swell this morning with a few hours of offshore before the gales arrive. Now looks as though the swell will get here at the same time. VAS conditions tonight.

'Now each year there is a Canberra Day where Canberrans are able to celebrate the physical beauty, and cultural diversity and vibrancy of their city. The 1999 festival was held March 1-21 and Canberra Day was 15 March (Canberra Day is celebrated on the third Monday in March each year). The Day commemorates and celebrates the official founding Canberra on 12 March 1913. During the festival the Canberra Citizen of the Year is named.'
