Hell! at last i've finished it! Continuing from the last post, i've done the 'rail patch', as to repair the damage done in repairing the previous damage [he!]. This time, the lamination does not come out so fine...having put the second patch directly above the big one, without any sanding, i found that small irregularities in the underneath surface act as a trap for bubbles, that i was unable to squeeze out. As a result, the second patch has come out not as nice as the first, many bubbles and holes, especially in the upper surface. After anothe coating of resin, laid with a large bristle, i proceeded anyway in sanding it. The first patch surface come out very nice indeed, but the bubbled zone in the second patch, when sanded, resulted in many little holes, and regions where the glass fibers surface out. Being too lazy for anothe epoxy round, i tried to add anothe coat with solarez polyester resin...wrong, it does not adhere at all to the polished epoxy surface...too bad. I've already proved the sea-worthiness of the board and noted no water intake, so i continued with the spray painting, wich showed to be a mess all by itself, epecially because, with this cold climate, the paint takes forever to dry. Anyway, the board is now fully repaired and painted, albeit it lose some of its original 'smoothness'...it now renseble some old marine wood-work, coming from the last century, with layer upon layer of wavy paint.
In the meantime, i matured the convintion that black boards bring misfortune. In my last surf sessions i managed to 1)broke the board, 2) the day after, blunting my nose AND tearing my eybrow, 3) in my sea-worthiness trial i managed to get my fingers squeezed between the leash band and the board...ouch it bleeded like hell! i've baptised the board with my blood, hoping that this will satiate her, and not let her even more blood hungy!
Next week-end, another big swell is coming!Wish me good luck!
