My wife has an job interview in DC, and as always we 'must' live within driving distance from the coast (the rule is around 45min). The office is across the Potomac in Falls Church. Looking at the map of the DC peninsula region it looks like a bit of a drive from the metro DC region. So my questions are..

1. From the general DC area (more than likely across the Chesapeake bay bridge) how far of a drive is it to the coast? Lets say Ocean City, or the Indian River inlet? Looks close to 100mi from DC taking the 404.

2. How is the housing situation on the eastern shore? More than likely we would be looking at something around 100-130k, are we talking a cardboard box or we going to have to live in a VW vanagon?

some decent areas for surf along the peninsula. Hell, better than the surf Mecca of the south (Alabama??).

Anyway thanks, Foon, rodNDtube, others... As a side note what is the limit on people for the Guidopalooza (GP2K1?), are you packed out? Is there a priorty list?

Andy The winds picking up, should be 1XOH by Fri! (see conversion chart below)

Alabama wave conversion chart:

Wave height Alabama size 2' waist high 'man this is awesome!' 4' head to chest 'dude, do you think it's getting bigger!' 6' 1XOH 'sheeit that's some big waves' 8' 2XOH 'SHEEEEET yall ain't goin surfin' in da' Gulf?' 10' clean Beep-beep-beep-beep 'awwshit....dreaming again'

It is roughly 3 to 3-1/2 hours from Balto or DC to OC/Md or Indian River Inlet. It is 45 to 60 minutes from the coast to Cambridge, MD, not a town I am real fond of but others may differ. It's still a *long* hike for the daily commute to DC, esp. Falls Church. Easton or Kent Narrows would be a better choice (compromise betw the two).

You should be able to do fine in that price range.

It is probably about as good as the Jersey reports you get from Guido and Co. and better than VaBeach in picking up swell.

Not that I know of

I live near the Bay Bridge, and from the bridge, if you take 404, you can make it to the Fenwick area in about 1 hour, 45 minutes. IRI is about 15 minutes north from there, OC inlet is about 140 blocks south (the drive time to OC Inlet can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the time of year you are there...summer traffic, uggh). As far as the drive from the bridge to DC, I'd guess an hour or so, but I'm not an expert there. Foon?...

plenty of places on eastern shore you can do well for that price.

Rod said it pretty well. It's not J-Bay, but it keeps most of us happy most of the time.

cheers, scott

Thanks guys,

Julie and I will definitely look in the eastern shore area if she lands the job (hey, we might even be able to purchase that sailboat I've been pineing for!). I'm not worried about the surfing opportunities; I am definitely not jaded...

We extend a full and hearty welcome to a potential new member to our fledgling Mid-Atlantic Alt.Surfing club! We'll have to start printing up t-shirts soon.
