Hey, I was looking to get into surfing, and was wondering what type of board i should look for. I will be surfing in mainly small waves. I saw a 6'2 board for sale for cheap, would this board be difficult to learn on because it is so small, or should i go bigger. I don't want a huge longboard. Thanks for any info.

A short board is generally much harder to learn on. But, if you are intent on going short, make sure you get a board with plenty of thickness and/or width, so that it floats well. A board that floats well catches waves easier. Whatever you do don't buy one of those potato chip thin boards, or you'll undoubtedly regret it. I've got one that I only use when the waves get chest high or over, and it's pretty squirrely (takes a while to get used to the transition).

I'd recommend getting a fun board about 7 1/2 to 8 feet long. You'll get a lot more waves, and probably be up and riding before the end of your first

Two feet longer than you are tall.

Wide at nose and tail.

Don't buy a board to learn on. Borrow or rent. Buying a board to learn on is like buying a bike with training wheels welded on. You're stuck with it.

Once you have the basics down, then start thinking about buying one.
