Here in Chicago it's been a bad winter so far..worst in twenty years of so. After getting skunked by the New York blizzard on New Years Eve and not being able to surf with the New Jersey Guidos, I headed out to San Clemente for some sun and surf. I was sick as a dog with the flu for part of the time, had a knee injury, but got in a good amount of surfing at San Onofre. I also got to see some alt.surfing/longboarding friends! A few Great Lakers were around, too!

A master of stating the obvious, Craig observed:

Not to mooch off your credentials but we're looking at a dusting of 5 inches this morning. A nuisance to hardcores like you. But we'd be out of work if it were a weekday here.

<snipped excellent report>

Keep traveling and reporting Craig, you have no idea how pleasant it is to see your smiling face in Sano. One ques? Did you treat the Sano crowd to lunch and beers? They love when you come to town brah.

Hey Teek, Where were you midday? After being at Trestles I headed back to Church's about midday, too. We headed out around 1PM, so maybe you were nearby? It couldn't possibly have been as big as the 'elbow' on those days Larry describes?? Nice new board. btw. See you at the Dairyland, if not before on a very strong SW up your way! craig

Foon and Flek, It would be fun if we could have a 'cross country' palooza sometime. The left coast meets the right coast... and then there's those who come from 'in between' (like me!). The closest we came was when Foon was with us at San O last year. And then I tried to get NeoN to the GPY2k, but he couldn't make it. We'll try again sometime.

The logical place for such a cross country palooza might be the middle of the country... how about Milwaukee, Wisconsin? No guarantees on the wave quality, but the beer is pretty good!

Craig,

great idea, except we should meet at the middle coast!

The Gulf of Mexico!

eh?

Ok, yeah your right. Milwaukee had a better chance of waves in the summer than we do, plus Summerfest is nuts (drooling just thinking of brats and all the beer tents).

Craig pandered:

I was in Chitown in Feb....once. 18 inches of snow and wind off the Lake gusting to 45 mph. Windchills in the minus teens zone. Colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra soaked in liquid nitrogen. I would come for the food and music alone. Surf would be a plus, but it would have to be in weather where I don't have to have a M.A.S.H. unit onshore to defrost me after a sesh.

Chicago in the winter...? Not likely

Hardly pandering in my dare, I was inviting you to come around..

Come in the spring or fall! You may be familiar with how this place gets in the summer sometimes...fry an egg on the sidewalk, 105F and 95% humidity. But that is only sometimes.

Personally I'll take 30F over 105F any day. I once swore I'd never live south of the Mason Dixon line. Later I moved my recquisite latitude line north to the Kankekee River at Flatbelly's Reservation: http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/ntreaty/pot1828.htm (Foon, I know you are a history buff)

I hereby expand my recquisite latitude line south to Cabo as long as the longitudinal location is within 25,000 Cubits of the Pacific Ocean but will remain north of that line in most sections of these United States..

In other words, I hate heat and humdity as much as you hate the cold! craig

Rod, the whole purpose of a 'palooza' is to surf or meet other alt.surfers. Sure wish I'd known you when you were only blocks from where I live (4 blks from Wrigley Field on the Lake).

Berghoff?? Frequented by my Great Grandfather Ernst around 1910, pre-prohibition (which didn't stop our family from beer drinking, anyway).

Also, I don't blame anyone for not choosing to come here for the waves.. but the waves can be sometimes a BONUS for anyone coming through town.

big waves, well, New Jersey I can't say for sure! Never seen it, so I don't know...just like you all think about the Lakes, right? <G> Anyway, would be great to see any of youz out here!

The apt. I speak of is used for storage/office space. We don't rent it out because we can't.. the layout doesn't pass code... 110+ years old.

See ya at GPY2k1! craig

p.s. never traded a 'cow' in my life. I have (in my past) traded only financial things...ya know like options on bonds and that sort of thing. Chicago's days as 'hog butcher to the world' ended about a million years ago..
